Bayer CropScience announced on July 3 that it had signed an agreement to purchase AgraQuest, a US-based bio- pesticide company, for US$425 million. Headquartered in Davis, California, AgraQuest is a company that focuses on natural microbes for pest control. The acquisition will help Bayer strengthen its control of pests and diseases in fruit and vegetable products. Through this acquisition, Bayer plans to achieve a sales target of 3 billion euros in this field by 2020.

AgraQuest's current product portfolio includes: Serenade, Rhapsody, Sonata and Ballad fungicides and Requiem insecticides. It can be an effective supplement to Bayer CropScience Pest Control products. Bayer's assets include AgraQuest's technology platform and products under development such as acaracides, fungicides, nematicides, and biopesticides production facilities in the state of Tlaxcala, Mexico.
