At the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show held recently, Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd. of Japan presented to participants a “Hybrid Automatic Transmission System for Commercial Vehicles†that can constitute an automatic transmission (AT) system for commercial vehicle hybrid systems. The length of the system is less than 1m. In terms of weight, the front module is approximately 70kg, and the module is approximately 160kg, totaling about 230kg. Including the motor, the new AT system was all developed by Aisin Seiki. It will be produced at the company's Ogawa Plant (Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture).
According to reports, the structure of this system is that in front of the 6-speed AT with a torque converter, a front module integrated with a clutch and a motor is added. The front module is connected to the engine side. The main source of power is the engine-driven parallel hybrid system with the motor as the supplement. That is to say, the daily engine rotates with the best efficiency of 1500-2000 rpm, and the motor compensates with insufficient torque. The system can run EV alone with a motor. However, it is alleged that small trucks for North America are not EV-powered.
In order to support the idle stop function, the new system also uses an electric oil pump. If the starting clutch in the AT does not apply hydraulic pressure, it cannot start smoothly. Therefore, the engine power is usually used to generate the oil pressure. However, this cannot be done when the engine is at idle stop. Therefore, the new AT system uses an electric oil pump to ensure oil pressure.
The output power of the motor is 35kW, and the maximum torque is 350N·m. An IPM motor with a permanent magnet embedded in the rotor is used. The clutch is a wet multi-plate type with 7 pieces of friction material embedded. The transmission torque of the clutch is 600N·m. The clutch is disengaged during deceleration, and the deceleration energy is efficiently regenerated by the motor while the engine is turned off.
