US-based ethanol producer BlueFire recently said that the company plans to build the first commercial-scale cellulose ethanol plant in the United States and use agricultural waste to produce biofuels.
The company plans to build a new 3.2 million gallons/year (12.1 million liters/year) cellulosic ethanol plant near Lancaster, California (about 100 kilometers north of Los Angeles). The device is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2009. Specific details have not been disclosed.
Bluefire is one of the six ethanol companies funded by the U.S. Department of Energy to produce second-generation ethanol fuel.
