Four national technologies significantly increase the utilization of high-alumina fly ash in Inner Mongolia

The topics involved in this acceptance include: Optimization of alumina extraction from high-alumina fly ash and integration of multi-generation technologies and demonstration of large-scale industrialization undertaken by Inner Mongolia Datang International Renewable Resources Development Co., Ltd., high aluminum powder undertaken by Inner Mongolia University of Technology Key technologies and industrial demonstrations for the preparation of new chemical fillers from deashing products of coal ash, key technologies and demonstrations for the production of cement using calcium-silica slag and desulfurized gypsum, and high aluminum powders undertaken by the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences Key technologies and demonstrations of enrichment and extraction of thorium in coal ash and high value of products.
The expert group visited the Detroit Industrial Park in Inner Mongolia to inspect the demonstration line and the experimental site. After the evaluation, it was concluded that after four years of research, the four topics centered on the utilization of high-alumina fly ash, from the extraction of alumina and calcium silicate. The industry chain of comprehensive utilization of fly ash was extended from different perspectives, including paper making, recycling of metal thorium, and calcium-silicate slag as cement materials, and a number of high-alumina fly ash extraction alumina multi-product core technologies were broken through, and some of these technologies reached international advanced levels. Most of the results achieved have been applied to production practices, and a new type of circular economy industry development model for coal—electricity—non-ferrous metallurgy—chemical—papermaking—building materials has been formed.

The project also conducted optimization experiments and pilot tests of calcium silicate slag firing cement clinker, completed the research and evaluation of calcium-silica slag as cement admixtures, and used calcium silicate slag, desulfurized gypsum, fly ash and other wastes to produce light weight. Insulation wall materials related experiments have the conditions for further industrialization.
